Prayer Requests

After our two week break from school (including a few extra days with Grandma due to a pesky virus), we started back to school today!

Suffice it to say, my brain is at capacity this evening.

So, without further ado, I have some specifics that we would appreciate your prayers for. Thank you, sweet friends and family!

  • With the new semester at school have come increased covid measures… including masks for the kids and regular testing. Their school year has felt pretty normal up until this point - and for that we’re so thankful. But now, Lucy especially is having to adjust to language learning with a mask - and we know how hard that can be. Would you pray for her and her language development? Perhaps, as a result of masks, we will all learn French better than we would have otherwise because we can’t rely on watching people’s mouths move? C’est possible!

  • We’re beginning to plan for our next step… moving to Africa in less than four months! At this point, we’re just looking at dates and long-range planning. Would you pray for us as we approach yet another transition? And wisdom to know how to be all-in while we’re still here. We’re SO EXCITED to be so close to our move to Abidjan, but we also want to make the most of our time and relationships here. The kids recently learned that they won’t be able to finish out the school year here and they’re bummed about that.

  • We’re over half-way through this time of language learning, and though we’re so encouraged by how far we’ve come, we know that we’ll continue to grow in our French abilities for years to come! Would you pray for endurance and big steps UP in the next few months? At this very moment, I’m feeling a bit discouraged about language learning. (And, I have yet to do tonight’s homework…) But I know there will be another “step up” on the symbolic language-learning staircase soon. I’ve been here before and I’ll be here again.

  • And, just in general, encouragement and joy during the winter months after the fun of Christmas.

I’m working on incorporating more and more French into my time in Scripture. What joy to be able to read Scripture in another language! This is the verse I’m working to memorize in French right now…

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews 12:1-2 ESV

I imagine all of those witnesses who’ve gone before, with their eyes fixed on Jesus - setting an example to me and reminding me that Christ is worth it! He is all we need! He is faithful and has already won!
