One for our Kids...
Sometimes, I have no idea what to write in our weekly blog.
Sometimes, our life feels so normal that it isn't worth announcing.
Guess what? This is one of those times.
As I think about the purpose of this blog, I think of our friends and family that are following us and are committed to praying for us. I want our blog to tell you all where we are and what we're doing.
I'm able to tell you that we're still in Virginia and LOVING our time with Mimi and G-Daddy! I can tell you that Jack preached at Grace Bible Church over the weekend and we were able to connect with lots of old and new friends! I could share with you that our kids are doing so well, making friends and going with the flow of our ever-changing schedule.
I love that I'm able to share with everyone that we're leaving later this week for Orlando... our first in-person training! We will spend two weeks at Wycliffe Bible Translators headquarters. Our whole family will attend classes. Jack and I will learn more about Wycliffe USA as an organization, as well as how to best build our team of partners. Our kiddos will spend time in their classes learning about the translation process, praying for Bibleless people groups, and SWIMMING! This is also our first opportunity to get to know other Wycliffe newbies... and I'm sure we will develop friendships for life! I'm really excited to spend time with other families doing exactly what we're doing! Please pray for safety and energy, as well as sweet friendships and encouragement! Thank you! (I wrote more about our training in a previous blog post... if you're interested!)
I can share with you that the details for our trip to Ethiopia and Côte d'Ivoire are coming together! I (Lindsay) am waiting for my updated passport to come in the mail... I haven't left the country since our honeymoon! We are in a bit of a time crunch with this, as we need information from it to request a visa to Côte d'Ivoire. Pray it arrives quickly!
But, I want our blog to be more than just a calendar of events.
As I think of the purpose of this blog, I also think of our children.
This blog is, and will continue to be, the story of our family in this season of life. I want Lucy, Titus, and Elias to read these posts in the future and be able to see God's hand and faithfulness to our family.
After crossing through the Jordan River, God told the Israelites to bring stones from the riverbed and build them up as a reminder of God's power and provision, a reminder specifically for their children.
Joshua 4:21-24 And he said to the people of Israel, “When your children ask their fathers in times to come, ‘What do these stones mean?’ then you shall let your children know, ‘Israel passed over this Jordan on dry ground.’ For the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan for you until you passed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up for us until we passed over, so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the Lord is mighty, that you may fear the Lord your God forever.”
So, this next part is especially for them, and I'd love it if you read along!
To my precious kiddos: Lucy, Titus, Elias (and anyone else God may add!),
You are all awesome. Daddy and I are so thankful for you and the way you've encouraged us and taken your own steps to follow God in faith. We have a lot of good (and hard) things ahead of us, and we are so excited to teach you more about our Great God!
God has been so faithful to our family. He always keeps His promises and He is always listening and always working!
God has been so faithful to surround us with people to encourage us. It's hard to sell everything and leave our friends, isn't it? But, like we say all the time, it's worth it to follow God! The friends that God gave us in Michigan, Illinois, and Virginia love you and pray for you. We will always need these people in our lives. Praise God for the CHURCH!
As we write future blog posts, I want you to be looking for ways that God is working. I want you to see God working in your hearts. What an awesome opportunity our family has to be a part of Bible translation! We pray that God would use this whole season of our lives to draw you closer to Himself. We pray that you will choose to follow Him wholeheartedly, even when you're all grown up and making your own life decisions!
